SHAH ALAM - A TikTok video by user @yaya.tasha has gone viral after she shared her astonishment at being charged RM2,084 for parking at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The video, which has now garnered over 462,000 views, shows her disbelief when she discovers the hefty charge after leaving her car parked at the airport for 13 days and 8 hours.

The clip begins with @yaya.tasha entering her car’s registration number at a parking kiosk at KLIA's Preferred Parking facility, where she had parked her vehicle.

Upon selecting the ‘Pay’ option, the machine displayed a bill of RM2,084.

While parking fees at airports are typically higher than at other locations, some social media users were still taken aback by the extreme cost.

However, many social media users questioned why the woman chose the Preferred Parking area, which is known for its premium rates, when more affordable long-term parking options are available at KLIA.

Reactions online have been varied. Instagram user @ana_engku commented, “It is logical the fee is around RM2000, because of 14 days.”

Meanwhile, @syed_zainal_abidin_aljunid suggested a more economical approach, saying, “It is cheaper and safer to just park the car at home and use public transport or GrabCar service to or from the airport. It is not rocket science, it is common sense.”

User @ask_shaz defended the airport’s pricing, stating, “To be fair it is at the preferred parking. One should be aware that the parking rate at preferred parking is at a super premium rate. One usually parks there only for very short periods and when one needs to be quick, not 14 days. It is not the airport’s fault really, it is the driver’s neglect to see the parking rate before parking.”

While the video continues to draw attention, it has sparked a broader discussion about the costs of airport parking and the importance of checking parking rates before leaving a vehicle for extended periods.
