KUALA LUMPUR - The police have verified the validity of the marriage certificate of a Cabinet minister's son, who married in a neighbouring country last September, following an investigation into a criminal intimidation case that went viral recently.

Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husainndisclosed that the couple had been in a relationship and decided to marry but encountered certain obstacles.

“They hid their marriage, which took place last September, even from their close friends.

"When the issue surfaced, their friends were unaware of it as the couple did not want to make it a bigger issue, fearing it would hurt their families’ feelings,” Razarudin said during a media conference at Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Tuesday.

Razarudin confirmed that the investigation file related to the case has been completed and forwarded to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) in Penang.

“We are waiting for further instructions from the DPP’s office,” he added.

The criminal intimidation case, which gained widespread attention on social media last week, involved allegations that the minister's child had threatened a woman who had asked him to take responsibility for her seven-week pregnancy.

The incident, which went viral on Telegram, highlighted serious allegations of threats made by the individual.
