83-year-old driver crashes into petrol station shop after pressing wrong pedal
After refuelling, the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator, hitting a parked motorcycle.
SUNGAI PETANI - An 83-year-old man accidentally stepped on the accelerator, causing his car to hit a parked motorcycle and crash into a petrol station shop, damaging a glass wall at Taman Cindai Jaya.
Kuala Muda District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharudin Wan Ismail said the incident occurred at 10.03am on Sunday after the driver had just refuelled his car at the station.
“Initial investigations revealed that after refuelling, the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator, hitting a parked motorcycle. Both the car and motorcycle then continued forward, colliding with the shop wall,” he said.
The accident caused damage to the car’s front left section, breaking the left headlight, while the motorcycle sustained damage to its rear light, tyre, and back section.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, all parties involved were advised to undergo medical check-ups at Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital as a precaution.
The case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules (LN) 166/59.
