Selangor Seed Community presents "Hiss of Fortune" for Chinese New Year 2025
THE Selangor Seed Community and Central i-City, in collaboration with Taste of Klang, proudly present the "Hiss of Fortune" celebration to welcome the 2025 Year of the Snake.
Running from Jan 11 to Feb 9 at Central i-City Shopping Mall, this vibrant event highlights Chinese New Year traditions, fostering community spirit and cultural appreciation.
Themed “Hiss of Fortune” (蛇麽攏賀), meaning "everything goes well," the celebration symbolises prosperity and positive energy for the Year of the Snake.
It invites people of all backgrounds to embrace the festive spirit.
Recently, Bandar Baru Klang state assemblyman, Dr Quah Perng Fei commended Central i-City’s efforts to provide a platform for small and micro enterprises.
"These efforts are truly impressive and deserve our full support.
“I hope that in the future, more shopping malls like Central i-City will actively participate in community activities, support economic growth, preserve cultural traditions, and promote harmony in our society,” he said.
Meanwhile, Central Pattana Thailand Regional general manager, Shun Wong pointed out Central i-City’s pride in leading a distinctive Chinese New Year celebration that showcases local talent and fosters community engagement.
“We are deeply honoured to collaborate with such innovative young talent to create a distinctive Chinese New Year experience that sets Central i-City apart from any other destination.
“This partnership reflects our unwavering commitment to supporting the local art scene and nurturing creative excellence within the community,” Wong said.
AAs part of the festivities, Central i-City is hosting the largest Chinese New Year Bazaar in Klang and Shah Alam. This vibrant marketplace features over 50 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) offering unique products across three weekends.
“These efforts are not only about spreading festive joy, but also about empowering local entrepreneurs and fostering a deeper sense of community,” he added.
Wong also stressed that Central i-City has achieved an impressive 95 per cent occupancy rate, a milestone that reflects the strong trust and support from their partners, shoppers, and local authorities.
Meet Rooyee, the Lucky Snake
At the heart of the celebration is “Rooyee,” a delightful character designed by Malaysia’s award-winning studio Monkiddo. Representing a lucky snake, Rooyee embodies five blessings in Chinese culture:
- Red: Luck (福)
- Green: Peace (安)
- Pink: Happiness (喜)
- Gold: Wealth (富)
- Blue: Auspiciousness (祥)
Visitors can also meet other creative characters like SOSO, ONE, Wolfey, Tinda, and Bani, making for memorable photo opportunities.
Additionally, Monkiddo is an interesting combination of Monster and Kiddo, brought to life by Malaysian illustrator Jayee Lim and co-owned by iNCH LAB. With imaginative designs and a playful storytelling style, Monkiddo has won several international awards, including the Hiii Illustration Award and Illoboom Illustration Award.
Exciting activities for all
Central i-City is set to usher in the Year of the Snake with a month-long celebration filled with vibrant activities and festive surprises every weekend.
Visitors can immerse themselves in the Chinese New Year spirit while enjoying shopping and special events designed to unite families and communities.
The celebration will feature an array of engaging activities, including a Snakes and Ladders competition, creative CNY Lou Sang sessions, dance and Chinese orchestra competitions, Klang’s Largest Chinese New Year Market, a colouring contest, a kids' fashion show, and a calligraphy contest.
Visitors can also participate in the Chinese New Year Ornament and Creative Lou Sang contests and enjoy a showcase of children’s talents at the kids’ talent show.
Adding a traditional touch, Central i-City has planned an exciting lineup of cultural performances on selected dates.
On the 4th (Feb1), 5th (Feb 2), 11th (Feb 8), and 12th days (Feb9) of Chinese New Year, visitors will be treated to captivating performances, including Lion Dances, Erhu and Guzheng music recitals, Chinese Yo-Yo demonstrations, festive songs and dances, and the dynamic 24 Festive Drum performance.
