Photographer arrested for attacking two fashion designers
The incident is believed to have been caused by a personal dispute between the parties involved.
PETALING JAYA - The police have arrested a photographer suspected of attacking two fashion designers, Razman and Razmi, during an awards event held at a hotel here on Wednesday.
Petaling Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulnizam Jaafar said the authorities received two reports regarding the incident at 11pm.
"The man was successfully arrested at the scene, and a camera used as a weapon in the attack was also seized," he said in a statement on Thursday.
The cause of the incident is believed to be related to a personal issue.
Shahrulnizam added that investigation paper had been opened under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
"The suspect has been remanded for two days starting today and will be charged in court tomorrow (Friday)," he said.
He also advised the public not to engage in illegal activities.
"Public members can report any unlawful activities to the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 03-79662222," he said.
Earlier, the media reported that during the 8.40pm incident, the two well-known fashion designers, Razman Razmi, who also designed outfits for sensational entrepreneur Datuk Seri Vida for the event, were assaulted with a camera by the photographer.
The attack occurred while reporters were interviewing Vida, when the photographer suddenly became aggressive and attacked the designers with his camera.
The two victims, aged 47 and 53, sustained facial injuries and were given emergency treatment before the event organisers filed a police report.
It is understood that the incident is believed to have been caused by a personal dispute between the parties involved.
Vida said that Razman and Razmi had been escorting her down the red carpet when the photographer suddenly attacked the fashion designers.
Vida admitted that she was traumatised by witnessing such an incident in front of her eyes.
