Indonesian President Prabowo to visit Malaysia on Thursday

PUTRAJAYA - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will undertake a working visit to Malaysia on Thursday, his first since assuming office in October 2024, underscoring the strong ties between the two nations.
The Foreign Ministry in a statement said the visit highlights the robust cooperation shared by Malaysia and Indonesia across various sectors, including economic, socio-cultural, defence and security.
During the visit, Prabowo is scheduled to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, where both leaders are expected to discuss bilateral cooperation and explore new areas for collaboration.
Anwar will also host a private lunch in honour of Prabowo, added the statement.
With Malaysia holding the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, both leaders are also expected to exchange views on strengthening ASEAN Community Building, enhancing regional cooperation, and addressing common global challenges, the statement added.
Indonesia is one of Malaysia’s key trading partners, ranking as the seventh-largest globally and the third-largest among ASEAN member states in 2023. Total trade between the two nations reached RM111.21 billion (US$24.39 billion) last year.
For the January to October 2024 period, bilateral trade was valued at RM95.50 billion (US$20.75 billion), slightly surpassing RM94.37 billion (US$20.69 billion) during the corresponding period in 2023. - BERNAMA
