SHAH ALAM – Efforts to prevent and combat corruption should start at home and subsequently spread throughout society to create a more stable economic landscape for the future generations.

Selangor, Federal Territories and Putrajaya Gabungan Rasuah Busters chairman Professor Dr Hamdan Daniel M Sharib said eliminating corruption is not impossible with the cooperation of all parties.

He said Malaysians needed to cultivate a sense of responsibility towards the country and its people.

"Therefore, we must all come together with the intention to work hand-in-hand to ensure the country remains on the right track.

"The worsening corruption problem must be addressed by finding its cure.

"Undoubtedly, this effort begins at home and permeates every aspect of our lives," he told Sinar.

Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his 2025 New Year Message emphasised the country’s aspiration to uphold principles of excellence and unity while eradicating corruption, thereby solidifying its position as a sovereign, independent and responsible nation.

He said everyone must work together to uphold the principle of "striving for excellence," which meant seeking methods and solutions to achieve success and strengthen domestic unity first.

Anwar elaborated that before venturing into regional and international markets, the country must first be well-organised, governance must be enhanced and leakages and corruption must be eradicated.

Hamdan added that the principles of the Rukun Negara should continue to serve as the heartbeat of the nation’s spirit.

"As we step into the new year, let us support the government and responsible bodies in their efforts to combat corruption.

"May our country remain sovereign and continue to excel on the global stage," he said.

He also praised Anwar for his continuous efforts and reminded the public to support the government in promoting unity.
