Police to submit IP to DPP on hospital accused of mishandling deceased baby's body, tomorrow
Three investigating officers have been assigned by the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the case.
SHAH ALAM - The police will submit the investigation paper on the case involving a private hospital in Klang accused of withholding a newborn's body and storing it in a freezer for two weeks, to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's (DPP) office, tomorrow.
This was confirmed by Selangor deputy police chief Datuk Sasikala Devi Subramaniam when contacted by Sinar Daily, today.
"The investigation paper would be referred to the DPP on Dec 31, 2024," she said.
Meanwhile, the lawyer representing the baby's parents, Datuk Ahmad Zaharil Muhaiyar, revealed that three investigating officers have been assigned by the police to ensure a thorough investigation into the case.
He said the matter was being treated with seriousness.
"Three investigation officers are looking into this case. On the day I met the family, I returned all the relevant documents to them. Now, we await the investigation's completion," he added.
Previously, it was reported that the private maternity hospital had allegedly mishandled the remains of a deceased baby named Muhammad Adham Mikail and delayed burial arrangements.
Adham was born on Nov 24 and he was finally laid to rest on Dec 10, two weeks after his birth.
However, in a statement that went viral following the incident, the hospital strongly denied the allegations that it had detained the baby's remains due to unpaid bills.
The incident has since sparked outrage and concern over the treatment of deceased infants in healthcare facilities.
