SHAH ALAM - Pas extends its Christmas greetings to Christians across the country celebrating the holiday on Wednesday.

Its Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan expressed hope that the celebration would proceed smoothly and safely, just like the previous years.

“The celebration of this important day for Christians is part of Malaysia's great cultural diversity, adding to the colourful life experiences of the people.

“It can also contribute to the formation of a more mature society, fostering mutual respect and consideration,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.

Christmas is celebrated on Dec 25 every year by Christians.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said Pas embraces and welcomes the enrichment of these experiences and their positive impact on the building of a more quality or morally grounded Malaysian society based on noble and sacred religious values.

“Given the shared Ibrahimiyyah religious roots, Pas believes that Muslims and Christians have many similarities, both in terms of fundamental beliefs and practices, and can contribute to the creation of a better country.

“Monotheism, shared prophets and messengers, the noble status of Maryam, the afterlife, the rewards of heaven and hell, fasting practices and the virtue of charity are among the similarities that aim to shape good character, which is beneficial to both individuals and society,” he added.

He added he believed the moral strength of these two largest religious communities could play a significant role in creating a peaceful world, free from moral decay, war, oppression, hatred, famine, or injustice for all people, groups and regions.
