Four interesting family experiences in KL this school break
A survey revealed that 87 per cent of Malaysians prioritise activities, relaxation and exploration when traveling.
KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysia's capital city has always been a favourite destination for both domestic and international visitors seeking the perfect holiday getaway.
It comes as no surprise that the latest survey by Hong Kong-based travel services booking platform Klook, ‘#KlookDulu Malaysian Travel Preferences 2024’, revealed that over half of Malaysians chose Kuala Lumpur, along with Penang and Melaka, as their preferred domestic travel destinations.
Sarah Wan, general manager of Klook for Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore, said the survey also found that 87 per cent of Malaysians prioritise activities, relaxation and exploration when traveling.
"With these three main objectives in mind, Kuala Lumpur offers a wide range of accommodations where visitors can relax. The city also offers new exhibitions and exciting experiences, making it an ideal destination for a domestic vacation," she told Bernama recently.
Following are some suggestions of experiences families can opt for during the current school break.
Alice Saves Wonderland: The Immersive Journey
The Exchange TRX, known for its luxury shopping featuring local and international brands, also has a hidden gem: the ‘Alice Saves Wonderland: The Immersive Journey’ exhibition on the second floor of the building.
Running from Oct 26, 2024, to Feb 16, 2025, the exhibition transports visitors to a magical world as soon as they step through the Door of Adventure or the Door of Magic.
Mohd Amirrul Nizam, 29, who works as a game master at the exhibition, said there are eight "enchanting rooms” where visitors can embark on an adventure with a mission to save Wonderland.
"Usually, visitors spend about 45 minutes to an hour completing the rescue mission, which can be enjoyed by both parents and their children," he said, adding the operating hours are from 10 am to 9 pm.
MinNature Malaysia
Just three kilometres from The Exchange TRX is MinNature Malaysia, located at Sungei Wang Plaza. It offers visitors a closer look at Malaysia through more than 500 miniature models showcasing the nation’s heritage and culture.
MinNature Malaysia has nine captivating segments, including ‘Taste of Malaysia,’ which features over 20 three-dimensional illustrations of traditional Malaysian delicacies such as Malay kuih and dim sum.
Other segments, including ‘Heritage Buildings and Kek Lok Si Lightshow’, ‘We are Malaysian Series’, ‘Heritage Buildings and Dataran Lightshow’ and ‘Heritage of Buildings’, display a collection of buildings from across the country. These exhibits highlight Malaysia’s rich history and diverse cultural heritage, offering a deeper understanding of its unique identity.
Good Times DIY Pottery Studio
A school holiday would feel incomplete without engaging in hands-on activities with your children. At the Good Times DIY Pottery Studio in Pavilion Bukit Jalil, families can experience pottery-making with clay.
Tickets, at RM175 each, can be purchased for the ‘Wheel-Throwing and Marble Artwork’ activity via Klook. Visitors will have the opportunity to create two types of pottery, a bowl and a cup, in a session lasting about an hour. Participants will be guided and assisted by an instructor to shape the clay into their desired forms.
Vivien Ng, a pottery consultant at the studio, explained that this family-friendly activity also allows participants to take home their creations after five weeks.
"Customers can express their creativity here as well... here, they can learn to make pottery and customise it to how they want it. There are four to five main steps that customers will learn,” she said, adding the activity is suitable for children aged 10 and above.
REXKL
REXKL, an event space at Jalan Sultan here that formerly served as a cinema, is currently offering ‘Twilight: An Immersive Journey’, where visitors can sit back and enjoy music, sound effects and moving visuals through three digital art screenings titled ‘Hanya Batik’ by Arif Rafhan, Bo Amir Iqram, Fahmi Hossed and Ian Kit; ‘Geometry of Emotions’ by Fabien Bouchard and Matthieu Pernaud; and ‘Escape’ by Colas Fiszman and Lauren Delforge.
For Malaysian citizens, tickets are priced at RM40 for adults, RM28 for youths and RM20 for children, while non-citizens are charged RM60 (adults), RM42 (youths) and RM30 (children). - BERNAMA
