Najib deserves full freedom – Nik Abduh
He claimed that the former Umno president was not given his full right to defend himself.
SHAH ALAM - Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak should be granted full freedom, not just being allowed to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Former Pas central committee member Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz said that he remained firm and is convinced that Najib faced a ‘biased’ trial.
He said the former Umno president was not given his full right to defend himself properly.
"I am not suggesting he be placed under house arrest. His right is to be fully free. Not because he has been proven innocent, but because he was not given the proper opportunity to defend himself.
"So how can the evidence be effectively established? In my opinion, just as the country’s politics still acts immaturely, could it be that the courts are also full of theatrics?" he said via Facebook on Tuesday.
Previously, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim raised the issue of the royal addendum of Najib to be considered by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, as the Pardons Board chairman.
Anwar said that the Pardons Board would consider several factors, including the trial process, the sentence, behaviour in prison, service and contributions, as well as trustworthiness to carry out responsibilities effectively before making a decision.
