IPOH - Police are investigating a theft incident at a house in Taman Klebang Putra, Chemor, after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad confirmed that the incident had gone viral on social media on Tuesday, initiating the 36-year-old local victim to come forward and lodge a report.
According to him, initial investigations revealed that the suspect had entered the house’s front compound by climbing over a neighbour's wall.
"Closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage also showed the man entering the victim’s wife’s unlocked car and stealing money that was kept in the car’s dashboard," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Further investigations revealed no other damage to the car or signs of forced entry into the house.
"The police are aware of the viral video and are actively working to locate the man involved in this incident. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code," Abang Zainal added.
He also urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the investigating officer Sergeant Ibrahim Ab Wahab at 019-8225877 or any nearby police station to assist in the investigation.
In the 32-second viral footage, a man wearing a hoodie and cap was seen sneaking into the house.
