SHAH ALAM - The resignation of Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as Perikatan Nasional (PN) treasurer came as a surprise, particularly to members and supporters of the coalition.

This drastic decision raised many questions and speculations regarding the reasons behind his move and its implications for politics within Pas and PN.

One of the speculations suggested the possibility of internal conflict within PN, which might have led Samsuri, also known as Dr Sam, to resign from his position.

The resignation came just two days after PN’s Supreme Council had convened a meeting to confirm appointments to six key positions, all of which remained under the control of Bersatu.

The appointments included Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali as PN Secretary-General, while Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu was named the coalition’s Information Chief.

In a statement, Azmin revealed that PN Chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who chaired the meeting, also announced Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin as PN Women’s Chief.

He added that Bersatu had also named Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin as PN Deputy Chairman with Datuk Dr Mohd Radzi Md Jidin and Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee joining the PN Supreme Council, following the recent party elections.

Could it have been a case of disagreements or dissatisfaction with these appointments that led Samsuri to step down?
