Takiyuddin submits motion to debate royal addendum
Takiyuddin added that the issue needed to be addressed urgently as the former Pekan MP should no longer be in prison but instead detained at home in accordance with the royal addendum.
SHAH ALAM - Kota Bharu MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan submitted a motion to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to discuss the issue of a royal addendum concerning former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Through a letter dated Dec 9, Takiyuddin who is also Pas secretary-general made the request under Rule 18(2) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
He said the debate on the royal addendum was important for all parties to determine whether it existed or not, especially with the circulation of the addendum dated Jan 29, 2024, to the Attorney General.
"The government has never clearly and unequivocally denied or confirmed the existence of the addendum when questioned, whether inside or outside the Dewan Rakyat.
"Datuk Mohamad Nizar (Najib's son) in an affidavit stated that on Aug 17, 2024, he was granted a royal addendum by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong which was submitted by His Majesty to the Pardons Board on Jan 29, 2024, at Istana Negara.
"On Dec 2, Nizar claimed that he was granted permission by the Sultan of Pahang to use the document for court purposes. This is significant as it pertains to the decision on Najib's pardon petition and the execution of the royal addendum by His Majesty.
"This matter is of public interest because the failure to carry out the order from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong constitutes an act of disobedience that could lead to a constitutional crisis," Takiyuddin stated in the letter.
Takiyuddin added that the issue needed to be addressed urgently as the former Pekan MP should no longer be in prison but instead detained at home in accordance with the royal addendum.
The issue of the royal addendum involving Najib remained controversial as no clear answers have been provided so far.
