'The West is actively taking part in Israel's genocide in Palestine, not just supporting it' - Palestinian journalist
He said this was evident in how Western media either downplayed or remained silent about the atrocities happening in the occupied territories.
KUALA LUMPUR – The West is not only complicit in the atrocities committed by Israel against Palestinians, but it is also participating in it, says a Palestinian journalist.
Sharing about his previous research, Ahmed Alnaouq who is also the founder of We Are Not Numbers, United Kingdom said it was found that Western countries were not only supporting Israel by supplying majority of the weapons used to kill and injure Palestinians, but also participating in the atrocities.
He said this was evident in how Western media either downplayed or remained silent about the atrocities happening in the occupied territories.
"I ask this to experts, who made the bomb, the vehicle and that opened my mind to a whole new idea of complicity and participation.
"The risk is not in the genocide, but actively participating in the wars. Without the West, Israel could have never continued the war (against Palestine)," he said during the Third International Conference on Palestine Studies 2024, here, recently.
He said there were many Western soldiers seen participating in the genocide in Palestine.
"We know for a fact that not only Israeli soldiers are in Gaza, but the American, French soldiers are also in Gaza participating in the war against Palestinians.
"This participation is in many different ways; weapon, intelligence and cash," he said.
He said the United States has spent billions of dollars on military aid to Israel for the ongoing genocide and more than 200 spy drones were flown by the British army in Palestine.
These world leaders, Alnaouq said knew exactly what was happening in Gaza.
He said they were aware that Israel was committing war crimes against the Palestinians and that Israel was carrying out a genocide.
Alnaouq also shared about how he lost his family on Oct 22, 2023, saying that Israel bombed his house while they were asleep killing his family members, including 14 children all at once.
He said his mother was the only one who survived the bombing but she later died due to cancer after not being able to get access to medical facilities due to Israel's frequent blockade.
He added that thousands of other families had also been wiped out, including his friend who was killed for his activism on social media.
"Fifteen months ago, it was unconceivable, unjustifiable to bomb hospitals, but now it has become normal to kill 183 journalists in Gaza, their family members and friends.
"It has become acceptable that almost 200,000 Palestinians have been killed and the world is just watching.
"This is not just about my family. This genocide did not start on Oct 7, 2023. Israel has been doing that for the past 76 years to destroy us," he said.
