KUALA LUMPUR - National squash head coach Andrew Cross is focused on selecting promising young athletes to represent the country at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games.

However, he said the names of the athletes have not been finalised yet, hinting that the players are those who recently represented Malaysia at the World Junior Championship.

"SEA Games may be a younger group this time because a few of the events are under 21s, so we'll need to be ready for that.

"We will look at some of the younger players, maybe like C Ameeshenraj, Joachim Chuah, Harith Danial Jafri, Low Wa Sern (men) while in the women’s side like K. Sehveetrraa and Whitney Isabelle,” he told Bernama after a National Sports Council Working Committee meeting in Bukit Jalil today.

Squash will be included in the 2025 SEA Games, offering four gold medals in the men's and women's individual and doubles categories.

The last time squash was contested in the SEA Games was in the 2019 edition in Manila, where Malaysia won three of the four gold medals on offer.

Meanwhile, Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia (SRAM) deputy president Mohamad Azlan Iskandar said today's meeting discussed several issues, including allocations for squash.

He said the National Sports Council (NSC) had agreed to provide extra allocations for talent development.
