Bersatu aims to expand membership to one million by next year
Its president revealed that the party will launch a campaign to achieve this goal, emphasising its commitment to growth and inclusivity.
SHAH ALAM – Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has announced plans to expand its membership, aiming to reach one million members by the end of next year.
Its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin revealed that the party will launch a campaign to achieve this goal, emphasising its commitment to growth and inclusivity.
"There was a request from a Sarawak representative to establish more branches in Sarawak, as there is significant interest from the people there to join Bersatu.
"I have proposed and will implement a campaign to increase the number of people to one million by the end of next year.
"We will assess which areas are suitable. If there is strong interest, we will expand and establish more branches," he said during a press conference at the seventh Bersatu Annual General Assembly held at the Ideal Convention Centre, here, today.
Also present were Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and vice-presidents Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee.
Responding to Kiandee’s suggestion regarding Bersatu’s efforts in Sabah, Muhyiddin said the party remained committed to the state’s development and its alignment with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
"When we were part of the federal government, we implemented parts of MA63.
"However, there are other provisions that must be addressed to ensure Sabah receives equal benefits. This will also form a key part of our manifesto for the upcoming Sabah state election," Muhyiddin said.
He also emphasised the need to fortify the party's administration and gear up for upcoming elections.
He said the election preparations were unavoidable, with the membership expansion campaign serving as a key component of these efforts, set to be rolled out nationwide.
Muhyiddin also announced that Bersatu will convene a general meeting next week to deliberate on election strategies.
"This will include discussions on potential candidates, whether we compete independently or align with other parties and the selection of a prime minister candidate," he said.
He reaffirmed Bersatu’s dedication to growing its influence and serving the people across Malaysia.
