SHAH ALAM - Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, has emphasised that he will continue to lead the party until it succeeds in capturing Putrajaya in the 16th General Election (GE16).

He said that there were a lot of work and significant tasks the party needed to undertake in preparation for the upcoming election.

“I pledge to carry the mandate of Bersatu members and grassroots, unanimously entrusted to me during the 2023 Annual General Assembly (PAT), to continue my responsibility as President until we reestablish ourselves in Putrajaya in GE16, InsyaAllah.

“Therefore, let us not be swayed by rumours, pitted against one another, or manipulated into believing there are factions or groups that could weaken and divide us. All of this is nonsense,” he said.

He made the remarks while delivering his keynote address at Bersatu’s 7th Annual General Assembly (PAT) on Saturday.

Muhyiddin also emphasised his commitment to lead the party, as it has now become the hope of the people and the nation.

The Pagoh MP also claimed that the component parties under the Unity Government could not be relied upon to uphold the struggles for religion, race and the country.

“Even though they share the same bed, they dream different dreams,” he added.

Furthermore, Muhyiddin assured the Chinese, Indian, and other communities that their rights would remain protected if Bersatu successfully forms the government.

He stressed that the rights of these groups would continue to be safeguarded as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.

As a party upholding the spirit of a new nationalism for Malaysia, he said Bersatu could not rely solely on the support of Malays and Bumiputeras to form the government.

“Look at our track record when we were in government. Not a single thread of non-Malay rights was seized or sidelined. In fact, all assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic was provided to all citizens, regardless of race or religion.

“My Cabinet members and I in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government at the time never considered skin colour or religious beliefs when providing aid. I never asked if someone was Malay, Chinese or Indian before extending help,” he said.
