GEORGE TOWN - Penang Muda has called the statement made by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor concerning the lease and historical status of Penang baseless, suggesting that it could jeopardise harmony and divide the unity of the people.

In a statement, Muda had emphasised that Penang was a sovereign Federal State, officially recognised as part of the Malaysian Federation under the Federal Constitution.

It pointed out that any attempt to question this status contradicted both historical and legal facts.

"Instead, the primary focus should be strengthening inter-state cooperation for mutual benefit.

"Provocative statements like these will only create unproductive political tensions.

"History should not be manipulated for short-term political gain but should serve as a foundation for strengthening harmony and the well-being of the people," the statement read.

Muda had also challenged Sanusi to take the matter of payments for Sungai Muda to court.

The party stated that this approach would have been more professional, transparent, and aligned with the law compared to making baseless and provocative statements.
