FBI probes bomb threats against Trump's Cabinet picks
Trump's designated White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said the incidents had occurred on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.
WASHINGTON - The FBI said on Wednesday it is investigating threats made against US President-elect Donald Trump's nominees for posts in his future administration.
"The FBI is aware of numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees, and we are working with our law enforcement partners," the FBI said in a statement, reported German news agency (dpa).
"We take all potential threats seriously and, as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement," it added.
"Swatting" relates to hoaxes aimed at causing major law enforcement operations.
Trump's designated White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said the incidents had occurred on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Law enforcement had acted quickly to ensure the safety of those concerned, she said.
"With President Trump as our example, dangerous acts of intimidation and violence will not deter us," Leavitt said.
Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, named as the future US ambassador to the United Nations, said a bomb threat had been made targeting her home in New York state.
She was informed of the threat while driving with her husband and three-year-old son from Washington to Saratoga County. Police had reacted immediately with the highest professionalism, she said. - BERNAMA-dpa
