KUALA LUMPUR – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has expressed his readiness to act as a mentor for anyone aspiring to become the Prime Minister.

The veteran statesman, who has served as Prime Minister twice, said his office is always open to those with such aspirations.

"I have the Perdana Leadership Foundation. If you want to be a leader, come to my foundation.

"I will teach you how to become the Prime Minister," he said during his speech at the launch of the book Idealis: Syed Hamid Albar here on Wednesday.

Dr Mahathir also remarked that the current political landscape is vastly different from the past, which he described as being simpler.

"In the past, we didn't need inspiration to become the Prime Minister. There was no question about who the Prime Minister should be back then.

"But now, they form parties to become Prime Minister. So, I suggest appointing not just one but several people. Everyone can be happy because they get to be Prime Minister," he said.

Meanwhile, when asked about the 'D' grade given by Bersih for the performance of the Unity Government, he sarcastically claimed he was unaware of its existence.

"I don’t know there is a Unity Government. Others, I don’t know.

"Now, everyone is divided, not united," he said.
