redONE Mobile strengthens environmental commitment with mangrove planting, beach clean-up at Pulau Carey

PULAU CAREY - redONE Mobile, a leading Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) in Malaysia, has further solidified its dedication to environmental preservation through a collaborative initiative with the Mah Meri Cultural Village (MMCV) held recently.
This event focused on mangrove planting and a beach clean-up at Pulau Carey, aimed at improving the ecological health of the coastal area while raising awareness of the vital role mangroves play in environmental conservation.
Volunteers came together for a day of impactful activities, including planting mangrove saplings and cleaning up the beach. These efforts are crucial in protecting shorelines from erosion, improving water quality and acting as significant carbon sinks to combat climate change.
The company also took the opportunity to celebrate the cultural richness of the Mah Meri tribe, one of Malaysia’s indigenous groups, who have historically been custodians of the coastal landscapes.
Participants engaged in various cultural activities, including leaf origami, atap weaving and wood carving demonstrations, as well as learning about traditional tools like the lastic and blowpipe.
A traditional Mah Meri wedding ceremony was also held, giving guests an authentic glimpse into the tribe’s unique heritage.
redONE Mobile chief executive officer Ameen Amaendran said the partnership with MMCV reflects redONE’s dedication to fostering lasting change by safeguarding the environment and supporting local communities.
“This programme aligns with our core values of sustainability and giving back to the communities we serve. Together, we aim to leave a positive legacy for future generations,” he added.
Meanwhile, MMCV’s representative Diana Ross Diaman, expressed her gratitude for the initiative, emphasizing that the partnership with redONE Mobile holds significant value for their community.
“Mangroves are a symbol of resilience, just like the Mah Meri people. Through this programme, we are able to protect our coastal environment while sharing our cultural heritage with the wider community.
“It is a step forward in preserving both our land and our traditions for future generations,” she said.
This mangrove planting and beach clean-up is part of a broader environmental initiative by redONE Mobile to contribute to sustainability and ecosystem restoration.
The company also carried out its ‘Eco Roots Initiative’ earlier this year at the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), where volunteers were trained in soil preparation and seedling production, furthering efforts to restore Malaysia’s natural ecosystems.
