Abang Adik wins best film award in Los Angeles

KUALA LUMPUR - Malaysian film Abang Adik triumphed at the 10th Asian World Film Festival 2024, held in Los Angeles, the United States (US) today, by securing the prestigious Best Film award.
The film’s lead actor, Wu Kang-ren, delivered a standout performance as Abang, earning him the Best Actor Award in the Feature Snow Leopard category.
"Abang Adik has just won Best Film and Best Actor at the Asian World Film Festival. Thank you to all the judges for this recognition," according to a post on the film's Facebook page.
The National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), in an earlier statement, said that Abang Adik, the debut feature by director Jin Ong, has clinched 19 international awards, underscoring the ability of Malaysian films to compete and excel on the global stage.
Among the film's most notable accolades are the Best Film Award at the 22nd New York Asian Film Festival (Uncaged Competition) and multiple honours at the 25th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Italy, including the Golden Mulberry, Black Dragon Critics' Award, and White Mulberry Award for Best Feature Film.
Additionally, Abang Adik has garnered recognition at prestigious events such as the 37th Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland and the First Film Festival in China.
Abang Adik also achieved remarkable success in China, earning RM2.2 million at the box office as of Sept 30, 2024, following its release on Sept 21, 2024. The film further amassed RM14.6 million in Taiwan and RM1.55 million in Hong Kong, establishing itself as the first Malaysian film to achieve record-breaking box office figures across these markets. - BERNAMA
