SHAH ALAM - In a heart-wrenching incident, Lee Zi Rou, who was crushed under a cargo container used her last bit of strength to call her mother.

"Mummy! It hurts so much!" the 21-year-old gasped into her handphone.

According to a report by English daily The Star, Lee’s 42-year-old mother, Lim, frantically asked her daughter where she was, but the question was met with silence.

"I sensed she had died," Lim was reported saying in a video interview recorded by Chinese-language newspaper Chinese China Press at Lee's wake, today.

Yesterday (Wednesday), Lee who drove a Honda Jazz was crushed by a cargo container lorry at the traffic light junction on Jalan Bukit Tengah in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

It was reported that the container fell onto Lee's car and crushed it when a lorry carrying the container lost control while making a sharp left turn.

Meanwhile, another car was also hit by the container but not as badly damaged.

However, the driver, Tan Chou Theng, 25, was seriously injured but survived after being rescued by passers-by and rushed to the hospital.

Lim was reported to have shared that she had told her daughters to only text for matters that were non-urgent.

Upon receiving a call from Lee, Lim said she knew that something was wrong.

"I told them that if they call, it means there is an emergency. So when Lee called, I felt fear," she was reported as saying.

Lim said she then told her other daughter to take the route that Lee usually took to work adding that she called Lee, but there was no answer.

A man finally picked up the phone, telling her that Lee had been crushed in an accident and disclosed the location details shortly after.

It was reported that when the mother arrived at the location, she was frantically asking bystanders to help rescue her daughter under the heavy container.

"But it was impossible. The container was too heavy.

"She called at 9.24am and died at 9.30am," she reportedly said.

Today, the Bukit Mertajam magistrate’s court issued a remand order against a 51-year-old lorry driver for four days until Sunday (Nov 17).

Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Helmi Aris said the man was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless driving.
