KUALA TERENGGANU - The owner of a popular seafood restaurant in Terengganu, Md Non Nawang, 68, better known as Pok Nong, passed away at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here on Nov 13.

His daughter, Nur Izzati, 25, said her father, who owned the famous Warung Pok Nong Celup Tepung, breathed his last at 11.45pm after being placed in a medically induced coma for surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain.

She said her father had collapsed and nearly fainted while attending the convocation ceremony of her younger sister, Nor Arissyah, 24, at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) Gong Badak, Kuala Nerus, at 2pm on Tuesday.

"During the academic procession, my father suddenly fell and was assisted by staff before being rushed to Sultan Zainal Abidin Hospital (HoSZA) and later transferred to HSNZ for further treatment.

"Yesterday, he was put in an induced coma for surgery due to bleeding in the brain or Stage 4 stroke, but sadly, my father was pronounced dead last night," she said when contacted here on Thursday.

According to her, before attending the convocation ceremony, her late father had a fever for two days.

She added that despite his condition, her father was determined to attend the convocation ceremony of her younger sister, a Bachelor’s degree graduate in Food Technology with Honours.

Izzati said that her father’s funeral prayer was held at 11am and he was laid to rest at the Hajar Islamic Cemetery, Kampung Gong Awang Lib, near Mengabang Telipot, Kuala Nerus.

Non, who was married to Radziah Omar, 58, was blessed with eight children.

His eatery, located along Jalan Pantai, Kampung Telipot in Kuala Nerus, was popular among locals and visitors to Terengganu.

Known as Pok Nong ICT (Ikan Celup Tepung), the stall, which offered a variety of fresh seafood, had been managed by Non for 30 years.
