FAM may take further action against Arif Aiman, Tommy Mawat over fight
The FAM Referee Performance Evaluation Committee will study the video clip of the incident and propose the follow-up action.
KUALA LUMPUR - The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) takes a serious view of the incident involving a fight between Johor Darul Ta'zim's (JDT) Arif Aiman Mohd Hanapi and Perak FC's Tommy Mawat Bada during their Super League match yesterday.
FAM deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundaram said both players could still face further action despite having been shown the yellow card by referee Razlan Joffri Ali during the game at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
He said further action could be taken after receiving the full report from the match commissioner and referee assessor.
"The FAM Referee Performance Evaluation Committee will study the video clip of the incident and propose the follow-up action.
"Yes, both players were yellow-carded after the incident but additional punishment and further action can still be taken if deemed necessary,” he said in a statement today.
Sivasundaram also advised players to learn to control their emotions when on the field.
During yesterday's match, which JDT won 5-0, the 83rd-minute incident occurred when Tommy Mawat tried to prevent Arif Aiman from breaking away, resulting in both players losing their cool.
When their teammates and the referee tried to break them up, Tommy Mawat was seen holding Arif Aiman by the throat while the JDT player was seen throwing a punch at his opponent's head.
However, both players were only shown the yellow for the altercation. - BERNAMA
