GEORGE TOWN - ‘Dialogue of Aesthetic’, an exhibition featuring works of 12 Thai artists, is currently being held at the Penang State Art Gallery here. The free admission exhibition which kicked off yesterday will go on until Nov 24.

With an impressive array of works ranging from breathtaking realistic figures to abstract and surreal interpretations, the exhibition offers a unique blend of styles and artistic influences that reflect the personal visions and experiences of each artist.

Among the standout pieces are that of Chairat Sangthong whose realistic figures captivate visitors, while artists like Man Chaima, Jaruwan Mueangkhwa and Natsuree Techawiriyataweesin explore themes of personal struggle, grief and loneliness through simple yet evocative portrayals of flowers and fantasy cats.

In contrast, Manee Meemak celebrates the beauty of nature with uplifting works that reflect joy and mystery through baskets and red ropes.

The exhibition also features works by Muhammad Rojana-Udomsat, known for his batik art which captures the serene beauty of nature under the glow of a moon.

Pornchai Chaima’s joyful figurative art depicts the harmony of family life, while Somsak Raksuwan reflects on the passage of time by portraying his love for antique collections as a reminder that all things age.

The show also highlights the minimalist approach of Rapeepat Phonrattanapaiboon, whose works play with colour and mood to evoke deep emotional responses.

Meanwhile, Thammanoon Ruengsawats’ surreal underwater landscapes celebrate the unspoiled beauty of the sea; Thanistha Nunthapoin transforms broken ceramics into abstract three-dimensional creations that symbolise beauty from destruction; and Wanda Chaima humorously explores human behaviour through his cartoonish depictions.

The exhibition was opened yesterday by Penang Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Wong Hon Wai. The deputy consul general at the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Penang Suratchaya Palawongse was also present at the opening ceremony.

Wong said art has the power to communicate beyond words and hoped that the exhibition would continue to strengthen the relationship between the two countries, particularly Penang and Thailand, while fostering an appreciation for each other’s artistic heritage and talents.

"I hope this collaboration between the Penang State Art Gallery and our neighbouring countries will continue to grow, fostering lasting friendships, cultural understanding and mutual admiration. Let us continue to build on our shared history and strengthen these connections through art, culture and creativity,” he added.

Suratchaya said she viewed art as a powerful tool in cultural diplomacy as it enhances understanding between cultures and strengthens international relations.

"Art and diplomacy, therefore, are deeply intertwined and mutually reinforcing. I am personally passionate about art too as it brings me comfort and deepens my appreciation for the rich diversity of cultures and perspectives.

"I truly hope this exhibition not only communicates the unique visions of these artists but also fosters a greater understanding of Thai culture,” she said. - BERNAMA
