Are we ready to forgive Najib?

There have been various reactions following former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's apology regarding misconduct involving the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

However, Najib maintains his innocence and places the blame on fugitive businessman Jho Low and Petrosaudi executives.

Najib's apology comes just days before the Kuala Lumpur High Court decides whether he must defend himself in the 1MDB corruption case that began five years ago.

The former Umno president expressed that he felt deeply hurt upon discovering the deceit that took place within 1MDB, which was under his supervision as Finance Minister and Prime Minister at the time.

Following the apology, some legal experts have suggested that it could be sub judice, as it involves discussing an active court case.

Other legal experts believe differently, viewing it as a clever strategy ahead of the case's decision.

It was also noteworthy that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim responded positively to the apology.

Regardless, Najib must still undergo the legal process to determine whether he needs to defend himself.

We place full trust in the judiciary to carry out the legal process fairly and impartially, without influence from any external factors.

Meanwhile, Malaysians are divided on whether to forgive Najib.

Of course, his loyal supporters view the apology as a noble and magnanimous act.

However, some citizens believe Najib should face punishment for his mistakes and disagree with him serving the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.

1MDB was a significant tragedy for the country and we must ensure that such an incident never happens again.

Leaders who dare to commit fraud that harms the nation should be prepared to face the people's judgment once again.
