KUALA LUMPUR - KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare) has made history with the launch of the KPJ Academic Health System ("KPJ Health System"), Malaysia’s first integrated health system that combines education, research, and clinical practice.

Announced during day two of the Malaysia International Healthcare (MIH) Megatrends 2024 conference, the KPJ Health System aims to transform hospitals into hubs of learning and discovery, enhancing both patient care and medical research.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who officiated the event at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, called this initiative a "significant step in the right direction" towards strengthening the partnerships among hospitals, universities, and research institutions in Malaysia.

"Healthcare requires active participation from all stakeholders—academia, the private sector, and government institutions.

"The KPJ Health System exemplifies this by fostering a value-based healthcare model, moving away from traditional fee-for-service to one that rewards outcomes, promotes efficient care delivery, and maintains clinical governance," he said.

According to Dr Dzulkefly, collaboration is key to ensuring Malaysia’s healthcare system remains adaptable to the needs of the people and competitive within the Southeast Asian healthcare landscape.

"Our healthcare system must continually evolve to better serve our people," he added.

Meanwhile, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Johor Corporation (JCorp) and Chairman of KPJ Healthcare Syed Mohamed Syed Ibrahim said that healthcare should no longer be limited to treatments alone.

"We need to rethink and reimagine how healthcare works. It is no longer just about providing treatments—hospitals must evolve beyond being mere treatment centres. They must embrace AI-driven diagnostics, personalised medicine, and shift towards preventive care and overall wellbeing to create a more sustainable healthcare system," he stated.

The KPJ Health System aims to improve patient outcomes, support continuous professional development, and drive groundbreaking research to address current and future healthcare challenges.

By integrating cutting-edge technologies like AI, quantum computing, and nanomedicine, KPJ Healthcare sets a new standard for quality healthcare services across Malaysia.

"This is a bold step forward, positioning the Group at the forefront of healthcare innovation,” he said.

The launch of the KPJ Health System follows an internal soft launch held a week earlier, during which key internal stakeholders were introduced to the system’s vision.

The KPJ Health System is designed to benefit not only KPJ Healthcare’s patients and staff, but also the broader community through its research-driven approach to healthcare and focus on education.

Through the integration of three essential pillars—to heal, to teach, and to discover, the Group is paving the way for future advancements in healthcare that will shape the industry for years to come.

The KPJ Health System marks a pivotal moment for KPJ Healthcare as the Group solidifies its position as a global leader in healthcare innovation, seamlessly weaving together the three pillars.

"This is a manifestation of the Group’s ‘Care for Life’ mantra, working hand-in-hand across stakeholders and sectors to elevate patient care to new heights, enhancing outcomes and setting new benchmarks in healthcare standards," Syed added.

MIH Megatrends 2024 is the nation’s premier healthcare event, organised by the Health Ministry in collaboration with KPJ Healthcare and in strategic partnership with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
