SHAH ALAM - During the bidding for the Madani special series number plates, one specific plate number drew significant attention.

The number 'Madani 8481' became a top pick as it resembled the word "Babi" (meaning pig), making it popular among collectors.

Another number, 'Madani 47,' also gained interest, as some associated it with the 47 corruption charges against Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was recently granted a discharge not amounting to an acquittal for these charges.

The Road Transport Department (RTD) set bid prices ranging from RM100 for general numbers up to RM20,000 for special ones.

From Oct 19 to 23, the RTD offered bids for special Madani registration numbers starting at RM100 via the JPJeBid system.

The winning bids were announced on Oct 24, and buyers were required to register their chosen numbers within 12 months.

Minimum bid prices were categorised as follows: RM20,000 for "Main Numbers," RM5,000 for "Premium Numbers," RM2,500 for "Attractive Numbers," RM500 for "Popular Numbers," and RM100 for "Running Numbers."

On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim received the special plate 'MADANI 10' from Transport Minister Loke Siew Fook during the Madani Rakyat 2024 event in Kota Kinabalu.
