KUALA LUMPUR - Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced Malaysia’s bid for UNESCO nomination for the Sungai Lembing Tin Mines in Pahang, as well as for the cultural practices of Chingay parades and lion dance performances, in preparation for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Anwar, who is also Prime Minister stated that a total of RM110 million has been allocated to enhance tourism areas, foster ecotourism collaboration, and support Unesco nominations.

“The government will also improve facilities at Endau Rompin National Park in Johor, Redang Island in Terengganu, and Tusan Beach in Bekenu, Sarawak.

“The government is also collaborating with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Habitat Foundation for this purpose,” he said while presenting the Malaysia Madani Budget 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.

Anwar added that nearly RM550 million has been allocated to boost the promotion and activities of this country’s tourism.

This includes organising cultural activities, tourism events, and enhancing flight access to Malaysia.

“Additionally, the government will empower community economies through arts, including promoting handicrafts and batik.

“To preserve Kuala Lumpur as a cultural and creative city, Khazanah is providing RM600 million to restore and enhance the value of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and Carcosa Seri Negara.

“This includes constructing a flyover bridge connecting the Perdana Botanical Gardens with Carcosa Seri Negara,” he said.
