Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker and Cameron Highlands Member of Parliament Ramli Mohd Nor, made a bold statement by wearing the traditional headgear of the Semai indigenous tribe while presiding over the 2025 Budget session in Dewan Rakyat today.

He made history as it was the first time the budget was chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat.

He shared that he was given the responsibility to chair the presentation by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the finance minister.

Previously, this session was typically chaired by the Speaker.

“This is a historic moment for me as a retired police officer and a descendant of the indigenous people of Peninsular Malaysia, especially as a Pahang-born.

“Please pray that everything goes smoothly,” he said in a statement today.
