ANKARA - German coach Thomas Tuchel has taken the helm at the England national football team, Anadolu Agency reported the English Football Association (FA) announced Wednesday.

The 51-year-old became the third non-British manager of England after Swede Sven-Goran Eriksson (2001-2006) and Italian Fabio Capello (2008-2011).

Following former English head coach Gareth Southgate's resignation after EURO 2024 in July, Lee Carsley had been in charge of the national team as a temporary coach.

Tuchel worked for French Ligue 1 powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain to win back-to-back French league titles in 2019 and 2020.

Under his leadership, Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the 2020 Champions League final in Lisbon, but lost to Bayern Munich.

Tuchel also led Chelsea to win a UEFA Champions League title, Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, then moved to German club Bayern Munich to clinch the 2022-23 Bundesliga title with them. - BERNAMA-ANADOLU AGENCY
