JERTIH - A tahfiz student was electrocuted when he held a lit electric light bulb with wet hands in his madrasah's dormitory canteen here last night.

Besut Police Chief Supt Abdul Rozak Muhammad said that in the 10.27 pm incident, Muhammad Fahim Rasyidi Shariful Hadi, 18, a student at Madrasah Tahfiz Al Quranil Hakim, Kampung Gong Penaga, Jabi near here, was washing his hands at the dormitory canteen sink after having a drink.

"While near the sink, the victim held a light bulb that was lit near the sink, and all of a sudden, the victim was electrocuted and collapsed at the scene,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Rozak said a madrasah teacher rushed the victim to the Besut Hospital Emergency Unit.

However, he said the victim, who was from Klang, Selangor, was confirmed dead while receiving treatment at 11.35 pm.
