Representation dismissed: Actor Hafidz Roshdi's case for hurting ex-wife to go for trial
The drama actor was charged with punching the woman's left cheek three times, resulting in the woman, who was then his wife, suffering cuts, bruises and swelling.
HULU SELANGOR - The case involving actor Hafidz Roshdi, who is charged with voluntarily causing hurt to his then-wife, Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, will proceed to trial as the Attorney-General Chambers (AGC) has dismissed his representation.
The matter was conveyed by Deputy Public Prosecutor Eirene Nabila Amani Wiliams-Hunt when the case came up for mention at the Kuala Kubu Bahru Magistrate’s Court here today.
"The prosecution wants to proceed with the case after examining all the facts of the case and requests that the court set a trial date," she said.
Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri then set Jan 20 next year for the hearing and ordered Nurul Shuhada, 30, to attend the proceedings.
At the proceedings, lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader who represented Hafidz informed the court that Nurul Shuhada had withdrawn her police report regarding the incident last July 6 and did not intend to continue with the case.
"The complainant is the main witness in the case and normally the prosecution will withdraw the charge when the complainant does not want to continue with the case,” he said.
However, Akberdin said the defence respected the decision by the prosecution to continue the case.
On March 13 last year, Hafidz, whose real name is Muhammad Hafidz Roshdi, 30, pleaded not guilty to the charge of voluntarily causing hurt to Nurul Shuhada.
The drama actor was charged with committing the act by punching the woman's left cheek three times, resulting in the woman, who was then his wife, suffering cuts, bruises, and swelling.
The offence was allegedly committed near the Sungai Buaya Toll Plaza exit at 3.22 am on March 2 last year.
The charge was framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code which carries imprisonment for up to one year or a maximum fine of RM2,000 or both, and read together with Section 326A of the same law code which provides imprisonment of double the maximum period for a conviction under Section 323.
On July 27 last year 2023, the Shah Alam Syariah Lower Court confirmed that the couple had divorced with a single talak. - BERNAMA
