Primary school senior assistant detained for allegedly molesting 12-year-old student

The suspect was arrested following a report lodged by the victim’s mother who claimed that her daughter had been hugged and kissed several times as well as received indecent photographs from the suspect.

IPOH - Police nabbed a senior assistant teacher at a primary school here on Friday on suspicion of molesting a female student at the same school.

Perak police chief Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the 37-year-old suspect, who is single, was arrested following a report lodged by the victim’s 47-year-old mother, who alleged her daughter had been hugged and kissed by the suspect.

"According to the report, the victim, aged 12, had been hugged and kissed several times as well as received indecent photographs from the teacher involved,” he said at a press conference at the Perak contingent police headquarters here today.

"The suspect, who has been serving at the school for eight months, has been remanded for six days from Saturday (Oct 12) till Oct 17 to assist in investigations under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

Yesterday, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh was reported to have said that the Education Ministry is ready to provide counselling services to the victim.

According to a report in 'China Press', the victim’s mother found indecent photographs on her daughter’s handphone which were sent by the said teacher in September through the WeChat and Instagram applications. - BERNAMA
