Driver who rams into UiTM Dungun students believed to be mentally ill
Wan Rukman confirmed that three victims sustained severe injuries, including broken necks and trauma to the head and chest and were pronounced dead at the scene.
SHAH ALAM - A female driver who crashed into four Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun students resulting in the deaths of three and leaving one seriously injured is believed to be experiencing mental health issues.
Terengganu Deputy Police Chief Datuk Wan Rukman Wan Hassan said the accident took place at 7.35pm in front of the UiTM Dungun campus, located at Kampung Sura Hujung.
The collision involved a Honda CRV sports utility vehicle (SUV) and two Yamaha motorcycles, specifically the Yamaha Y15ZR and Yamaha 135 LC.
The deceased had been identified as second-year students – Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, who hailed from Ayer Hitam, Muar, Johor; Ku Adib Aizad Ku Azmi, 20, from Sungai Buloh, Selangor and Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, from Ampang, Selangor.
Wan Rukman confirmed that all three victims sustained severe injuries, including broken necks and trauma to the head and chest and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial investigations revealed that all victims were travelling from Kuala Dungun towards Pantai Teluk Gadung when the SUV suddenly rammed into the back of the two motorcycles in the same lane.
"The deceased were taken to the Forensic Unit of Dungun Hospital for further action," Wan Rukman said.
Additionally, one of the victims Muhammad Ammar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, also a second-year Bachelor of Accounting student from Taman Seri Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, was taken to the Emergency Unit of Dungun Hospital for treatment.
The 49-year-old female driver has been arrested, and the case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act (RTA) 1987.
