Soldier killed after being hit by car overtaking on double lines

The Honda Civic 1.8S driver recklessly overtook a motorcycle with an unknown registration number in the double-line area and collided with the victim's motorcycle.

KLUANG - Due to the negligence of a car driver overtaking on double lines, a soldier was killed in a collision at Kilometre 3, Jalan Kluang-Nyior here last night.

Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the incident was believed to have occurred at 11.04pm involving a Yamaha Ego LC motorcycle and a Honda Civic 1.8S car.

"Preliminary investigations at the scene found that the Honda Civic 1.8S was travelling from Nyior towards Kluang town, while the motorcycle was heading from Kluang towards Nyior.

"Upon reaching the location, the Honda Civic 1.8S recklessly overtook a motorcycle with an unknown registration number in the double-line area.

"This caused the car to collide with the victim’s motorcycle, which was in the opposite lane," he said in a statement on Friday.

Bahrin added that due to the collision, the motorcyclist, 37-year-old Yuskhairi Zailani, who was a soldier sustained severe injuries to his legs, body and head.

The victim was rushed to the Ence' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) but was pronounced dead at 3.30am on Friday.

"A post-mortem was conducted at 10am Friday to determine the cause of death.

"The car driver, a 37-year-old male mechanic, sustained minor injuries to his face, hands and legs and received treatment at a private clinic," he added.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
