Nivea's ‘Moments of Care’ pledges RM50,000 to boost breast cancer awareness
The campaign is all about promoting early detection and self-care, especially for Malaysian women who face a one in 19 chance of being affected by the disease.
Nivea has teamed up with Watsons for their ‘Moments of Care’ initiative, pledging to donate RM50,000 to the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).
As Breast Cancer Awareness Month gets into full swing, this campaign is all about promoting early detection and self-care, especially for Malaysian women who face a one in 19 chance of being affected by the disease.
Beiersdorf Malaysia and Singapore country manager Dr Christopher Vierhaus emphasised how Nivea’s commitment to care goes beyond just looking after our skin.
"At Nivea, care is at the core of everything we do. As the world’s number one skincare brand with over a century of experience, our commitment extends beyond skincare into essential health and well-being.
“The 'Moments of Care' campaign is a reflection of this dedication, supporting BCWA's vital work in raising breast cancer awareness and encouraging proactive health measures among Malaysians,” he said.
Dr Vierhaus also expressed gratitude to Watsons for their invaluable partnership, highlighting how their commitment to excellence in health, wellness and beauty through their vast network of over 700 stores nationwide significantly enhances the reach and effectiveness of the campaign.
Together, the two brands encouraged women to take proactive steps for their health and make breast cancer checks a priority.
As part of this campaign, Nivea organised an exclusive workshop where qualified doctors and nurses shared crucial information about breast cancer, including early detection, common signs and how to perform self-examinations.
Plus, participants were given free breast cancer screenings; a clear reminder that regular check-ups can save lives.
BCWA, which was founded back in 1986 has been a strong advocate for breast cancer awareness and provides essential services like public education, psychosocial support and community outreach for those newly diagnosed, as well as for survivors.
Its President Lim Kim Foong emphasised the crucial importance of early detection, noting that breast cancer continues to be the most common cancer among Malaysian women, with 60 per cent of cases being diagnosed at advanced stages.
“Initiatives like 'Moments of Care' are essential for reminding Malaysians to make the effort for regular check-ups which can lead to the early detection of breast cancer.
“Our aim is to save lives and mitigate the impact of this disease,” she said.
Adding a personal touch to the campaign were moving stories from breast cancer survivors, including Dr Kartini Kamalul Ariffin and Hiba Abdul Rahman, as well as caregiver Atilia Haron.
Kartini, a well-known entrepreneur and former TV host, shared her powerful journey of being diagnosed with breast cancer in Feb 2023.
"In our fast-paced lives, it is easy to overlook our health, especially as a mother. We often prioritise our family’s needs and put ourselves last, but you need to remember that your family needs you to be healthy.
“Cancer was a real wake-up call for me. It highlighted the importance of each day and what is truly important in life,” she said at the event.
As a breast cancer survivor, Kartini shared her advice, which was both straightforward and impactful.
“Do not let this happen to you. You might discover the cancer too late when treatment options are limited. Prioritise your health and schedule regular check-ups. Early detection is essential for successful treatment and a better quality of life,” she said.
The ‘Moments of Care’ initiative is more than just a donation, it is a call for action. For every RM20 spent on Nivea products at Watsons, RM1 will be donated to BCWA, up to RM50,000.
