KLUANG – A young mother, still in her 30-day postpartum period, made the effort to bring her newborn daughter to fulfil her duty to vote at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Perdana, Taman Suria, on Saturday.

Nur Syafiqah Azani, 19, who had recently given birth to her first child, Nur Syafaa Atiya Mohd Riyadh Irfan, arrived at the polling centre at 8.45am.

"I live in Tampoi, Johor Bahru, and returned here as early as 4am with my husband, who works as a hardware store manager.

"This is my first time voting, so I didn’t want to miss the opportunity to come and vote," she said.

Originally from Sarawak, Nur Syafiqah moved to Taman Murni in 2016 when her mother began working at Kluang Hospital.

"I checked the voter registration last year and found that I was eligible to vote in the Mahkota state by-election today," she added.
