NIBONG TEBAL - A senator and his bodyguard have refuted allegations of seditious statements made against them.

Penang police chief Datuk Hamzah Ahmad said that the 38-year-old Senator filed a report at 8.31pm on Thursday after receiving a phone call from an unknown individual.

According to the report, the caller asked the Senator whether it was true that his bodyguard had filed a report against him for allegedly forcing the bodyguard to eat pork.

"The Senator denied the accusation and subsequently lodged a police report.

"His bodyguard also filed a report to deny the false accusation," Hamzah said during a press conference at the Seberang Perai Selatan district police headquarters on Friday.

Hamzah also confirmed that a preliminary investigation found that no such report filed anywhere in the country regarding the issue.

"We will seek an investigation order from the Deputy Public Prosecutor to conduct further inquiries.

"The case is being investigated under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation," he added.
