KLUANG - Johor police have confirmed that Barisan Nasional (BN) Mahkota by-election candidate Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah has no registered criminal convictions under the Registration of Criminals and Undesirable Persons Act 1969 (Act 7).

Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said the investigation into the allegations circulating on social media was referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office which ruled that no further action would be taken.

Bahrin confirmed that no charges were brought against Syed Hussein or anyone, in relation to the case.

Earlier, he said the police came across a social media link that contained allegations against Syed Hussein.

"The police advise political parties to campaign in a healthy manner and refrain from exploiting issues related to religion, royalty and race or make false statements about others.

"The public is also urged to not make any speculations or believe in the false claims without first verifying the authenticity," he said in a statement.

He also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone who deliberately made statements that could stir public unrest.

Earlier, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin better known as Chegu Bard urged Syed Hussein to address allegations of a previous arrest related to an assault case.

He also shared what he claimed was a police report allegedly connecting Syed Hussein to the incident.

In response, Syed Hussein denied the accusations and expressed his intention to file a legal action against Chegu Bard.

It was reported that BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi denied the allegations that Syed Hussien was once arrested by the police for being involved in a fight 16 years ago.

He said according to a report he read, Syed Hussein was attempting to defend a blind man who had been assaulted and harassed by a group of individuals.

Zahid said he had also personally conducted checks and found no records to support the allegations.
