PETALING JAYA - The parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, along with several family members, arrived at the Petaling Jaya Court Complex on Wednesday for their ongoing trial.

Zaim Ikhwan Zahari and Ismanira Abdul Manaf, both 29, were seen holding hands and appeared calm as they arrived at the court around 9am.

Zayn Rayyan’s grandfather, Zahari Mohd Reba, was also in attendance alongside other family members.

Representing the couple in the trial related to the alleged neglect of Zayn Rayyan, which could have resulted in physical harm, was lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin.

On June 13, Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to charges filed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a penalty of up to RM50,000 in fines or up to 20 years imprisonment, or both, if convicted.

The charges stem from the tragic events of December 6, 2023, when Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a stream near the Idaman Apartment area, Damansara Damai, at 10pm.

The child had been reported missing earlier from his residence, and his body was discovered approximately 200 metres from his apartment block.

Following a post-mortem examination, police confirmed that Zayn Rayyan had been murdered, with the results revealing injuries to his neck and body linked to criminal actions.
