SHAH ALAM - redONE Mobile is taking its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) to new heights with the launch of its ‘Eco Roots Initiative.’

Malaysia's largest Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) has launched a new environmental initiative in partnership with the Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM), highlighting the crucial need for nature conservation and promoting greater awareness about sustainability.

40 redONE Mobile employees, along with their family members and FRIM staff, gathered at the beautiful FRIM grounds to kick off the initiative. FRIM’s Head of Corporate Governance and Risk Caren Lwee led the charge, bringing together a team of passionate volunteers ready to get their hands dirty for a good cause.

Upon their arrival, the volunteers were greeted by Chairperson of FRIM's Main Nursery Branch, Dr Siti Salwana Hashim. She introduced the group to FRIM’s mission and gave a presentation on how they could all play a part in protecting Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.

The volunteers learned how to properly prepare soil and plant high-quality seedlings, with hands-on experience of planting Jambu Bol and Rhu Bukit saplings. Afterward, the group enjoyed a nature walk along one of FRIM’s nature trails, discovering the unique flora that calls Malaysia’s forests home.

The Eco Roots Initiative is more than just a tree-planting event, it is about creating a culture of sustainability within redONE and beyond. The project aims to educate the community on the importance of reforestation and ecosystem restoration while inspiring a wider audience to take part in protecting the environment.

redONE Mobile’s CEO Ameen Amaendran, shared his gratitude towards FRIM and emphasised how vital such initiatives are in fostering environmental responsibility.

“Our participation in the Eco Roots Initiative is a reflection of redONE Mobile's dedication to making a positive impact on our environment.

“We believe that every small effort counts, and through our collective actions, we can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future,” he said.

This is not the first time redONE Mobile has initiated CSR activities. There multiple previous initiative from programmes supporting the homeless at Pusat Gelandangan Transit Kuala Lumpur, to initiatives for children from orphanages during Ramadan.

They’ve also worked with the Persatuan Kebajikan Suara Kanak-Kanak Malaysia (SUKA) on the ‘Empowered 2 Teach’ programme, which provided educational support for indigenous children in Gopeng, Perak. Their charitable streak continued with the ‘Program Ibadah Qurban,’ distributing meat donations to communities in the East Coast for Hari Raya Aidiladha.

Looking forward, redONE Mobile has big plans to expand their community outreach with their upcoming Adopt-A-Family programme. This initiative will provide much-needed assistance, ranging from food and education to healthcare, to the families of employees who are struggling with poverty.

redONE Mobile’s Eco Roots Initiative is just another step in their journey to make the world a little greener, one tree at a time.
