SHAH ALAM - The skeletal remains of a 74-year-old retiree were discovered in his home in Mutiara Magna, Kepong, after being left unattended for four years.

The shocking discovery was made on Sept 5 by the deceased's son, who had visited the residence to check on his father.

According to Sentul district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ahmad Sukarno Mohd Zahari, the son found the door locked and forced his way inside, only to find his father's lifeless body.

"The deceased had been living alone since his divorce and had not communicated with his son since 2020," Sukarno said in a statement today.

According to social media posts relating to the discovery, neighbours and family members were unaware of his death, as he had led a quiet life in the community.

Despite being active in the local religious community, teaching children how to recite the Quran, no one noticed his absence, the post said.

The post also further revealed that the man had mentioned to friends at the mosque that he planned to return to his hometown, leading them to believe he was simply away on an extended break.

The tragic discovery has shocked the neighbourhood, as no foul smell had alerted anyone to the death.

Netizens have expressed disbelief and sadness online, questioning the lack of contact between the man and his children during the four-year period.

The deceased's remains will be handed over to his family for further arrangements.
