Don't Pray Pray! Phua Chu Kang set for a comeback with live show
Phua Chu Kang: The Greatest Show Man is set for two nights this October in KL
After 17 years away from the screen, Phua Chu Kang is making his grand return with a live show, bringing back the sharp and witty comedy that fans have come to love.
Popcorn Studio representative Erik Ong said ‘Phua Chu Kang: The Greatest Show Man’ will be meticulously prepared to ensure a remarkable experience.
"Rest assured, Phua Chu Kang: The Greatest Show Man will make its own mark when staged at HGH Convention Centre Sentul, Kuala Lumpur on October 24 and 25, 2024 at 8pm.
"Besides the iconic Phua Chu Kang being brought back live by Gurmit Singh, the plot and performance in the showcased concept will surely be worthwhile for the audience," he said.
The original sitcom Phua Chu Kang aired from 1997 to 2007, becoming a sensation in both Singapore and Malaysia. With his eccentric personality, curly hair, and signature yellow boots, Phua Chu Kang quickly became a household name. Over the course of 167 episodes across eight seasons, the show became Singapore's most internationally recognised sitcom.
Gurmit's brilliant portrayal of Phua Chu Kang delivered unforgettable lines like "Don't Pray Pray" and "Best in Singapore, JB, and some say Batam," which continue to resonate with fans.
"Interactive segments will occur, and you (the audience) will get involved as actors! These will be two extraordinary nights," Erik Ong added.
Gurmit, 59, he said this live performance will be a special opportunity to reconnect with fans.
"Of course, I can’t wait to return with something fresh but still carrying the classic Phua Chu Kang aura through Phua Chu Kang: The Greatest Show Man.
"How this performance will unfold and what will happen, come and you will get an unexpected show," Gurmit said.
Adding to the excitement, renowned musician Russell Curtis will take the stage with his blend of Folk and Pop music, while comedian Rizal Van Geyzel will keep audiences entertained with his stand-up routine.
