KUALA LUMPUR - Following recent inquiries about the halal status of several popular dining chains, the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has confirmed that five restaurants—Johnny's Restaurant, Black Canyon, Dolly Dim Sum, Mr Dakgalbi, and Bungkus Kaw Kaw—do not currently hold the Malaysian Halal Certification (SPHM).

Jakim clarified this information through a statement after conducting a thorough review using their MYeHALAL system, which was prompted by queries submitted via Jakim's Public Complaint Management System (Sispaa).

"While these five restaurants are not certified, it was discovered that the food chain brand Ayam Penyet Best has four outlets that still maintain valid Malaysian Halal Certification," Jakim detailed in a statement released on their Facebook page on Tuesday.

Jakim provided a timely response to the individual who made the inquiry, sending feedback via email at 11.36pm on Sept 2, the very same day the question was raised.

For consumers seeking to verify the halal status of any premises or products, Jakim recommended checking the Malaysian Halal Portal at http://myehalal.halal.gov.my/portal-halal/v1/index.php.
