KAJANG - The Unity Government has outlined seven conditions for Perikatan Nasional (PN) MPs to receive allocations, including support for the government until the end of the 15th Parliament and issues related to race, religion, and royalty (3R).

However, PN Chief Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan did not reveal the other five key conditions.

The Kota Bharu MP described the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) as unusual.

He stated that the MoU includes obligations for both the government and the Opposition, yet it does not specify the amount of funding to be allocated to the opposition.

"The MoU even addresses asset declarations.

"We are unclear why non-government MPs are required to declare their assets, as this should only involve government officials such as the Deputy Prime Ministers, Ministers, and Deputy Ministers," Takiyuddin said at a press conference following the Four State Governments (SG4) Summit at a hotel here on Monday.

Also present were former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Pas President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

Takiyuddin, who is also Pas Secretary-General, clarified that the Opposition received the MoU draft on Aug 6 and a decision will be made this month before Parliament reconvenes.

"The draft is still under discussion within PN, and we will submit it to the Deputy Prime Minister's office for further discussions.

"There is no deadline for responding to the MoU," he added.

On Aug 26, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the government have yet to receive any feedback from the Opposition regarding the MoU draft concerning the allocation of funds to their MPs.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously mentioned that resolving the issue of fund distribution to Opposition MPs should not be complicated.

He stressed that the conditions set for Opposition MPs seeking allocations are standard requirements in any negotiation and democratic practice.

The MoU draft, which focuses on developing and revitalising the country’s economy for the benefit of the people, will address the allocation of funds to Opposition MPs.
