SHAH ALAM - Former Harimau Malaya winger Faisal Halim visited the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) headquarters on Thursday.

Despite being unable to join the national team for the upcoming Pestabola Merdeka due to an injury, Faisal, affectionately known as Mickey, expressed his sadness and longing for his teammates.

He was at the FAM headquarters on a special invitation from the governing body as a guest on the first day of the national squad's training ahead of the Pestabola Merdeka, which kicks off on Sept 4.

"Honestly, I am sad because I can not be with the team.

"I have been with Harimau Malaya for many years; this is where I have fought for the national team with my teammates and coaches. But today, I am here as a guest watching my friends train," he said.

He shared his hope for a speedy recovery and expressed his desire to rejoin the team in the future.

"I feel that I will be back soon, Insyallah. I hope everyone will pray for me, and I can not wait to return.

"I came today after Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin (FAM President) called me yesterday to encourage my teammates, and I miss this moment," he said.

Faisal, who also plays for Selangor FC, was forced to take an extended break after being the victim of an acid attack by an unknown individual in May.
