ROME - A 54-year-old man on the Italian island of Sardinia concealed his deceased mother's body in a freezer for years to continue receiving her pension payments, reported German news agency dpa.

The freezer was on the ground floor.

The man, from the city of Sarroch, is now facing serious fraud and concealment of death charges.

Initial findings show the the son earned several thousand euros from the alleged fraud.

The woman is believed to have died around two years ago during the coronavirus, but presumably of natural causes. An autopsy is to determine the cause of death. -BERNAMA-DPA
